Norwich International Animation Festival

18 - 21 October 2006

Norwich International Animation Festival presents a white-hot programme of seminars, debates, retrospectives and special film programmes, alongside the very best new animation from around the world.

The animation festival is perfectly located in the heart of the medieval city. This year’s main venue, Norwich Playhouse, is situated on St. George Street, on the banks of the River Wensum - a stone’s throw from bars, restaurants and shops, and features a 300-seat auditorium and one of the best (and liveliest!) bars in town.

The Playhouse will be home to the festival videothèque and shop, and is where you’ll need to register and collect your pass. Use the Playhouse Bar as your meeting point throughout the festival - and take in some of the music events taking place throughout the festival.

Norwich has a well-documented, long-running association with the arts and artists, and boasts a packed arts calendar, with a multitude of festivals, an incredibly lively year-round music scene, and no fewer than six theatres, including one of the UK’s only Puppet Theatres. The newly-redeveloped animation festival is part of a city-wide arts development programme, spearheaded by CAN.05, a new arts festival due to pilot in Norwich in July 2005 and go forward to become a major visual arts biennial, adding to the celebrated existing open submissions art show, EAST and the year-round programme of exhibitions at Norwich Castle (as Tate in the East); Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts; the excellent Norwich Gallery; and the small but perfectly formed artist-led space Outpost.

Norwich has been voted best city for student nightlife, and attracts an average of 29,000 visitors every Saturday night to nightclubs, bars, restaurants and music venues, including an ever-eclectic selection of the best comedy, dance and music at Norwich Arts Centre great lineup at The Waterfront.
